Hey Y'all!  Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!  This week we wanted to share some of the 2017 Trends that we love and can't wait to incorporate into your wedding day!

1.  Drip Cakes - We are so excited to see this trend.  It can be quite sophisticated and quite casual depending on your cake artist.

2.  The Navy Suit or Tux - Navy isn't as harsh as black and yet still can be worn in a formal setting.  But the great thing is that a Navy Suit can look great at an outdoor wedding, a beach wedding, a formal wedding or just about any event imaginable!  (Besides, if a Navy Suit is good enough for Ryan Gosling, who are we to complain?!)

3.  Geometric shapes - We loving geometric shapes in weddings.  Whether it is ceremony decor, table centerpieces or hanging decor; it adds a sophisticated, modern vibe to your wedding.

4.  Mixed Metals - Trust us when we say that mixed metals and metallics in general, are not going anywhere!

5.  And finally, Hanging Decor - Hanging flowers, candles, lanterns, etc from different heights can add many layers to your look.  Whether it is for the ceremony, cocktails, or reception; hanging decor is a nice change and draws the eye around the space.  (Just check with your venue on the rules of how to hang your decor.)

We will keep you all posted on those hot and upcoming wedding trends!  See you next week for Kimmy and Sean's Wedding Blog!

We have all heard it...I am paying for the wedding so you need to do it my way.  Wow...talk about a difficult position to be in as a bride and as a wedding planner.

It all goes back to communication.  As soon as you get engaged you need to sit down with both sides of the family and find out who is paying for what.  And then find out if there are any restrictions that go with those items.

For example - You father and I would love to pay for the florals -- but since we are paying we only want red roses and I will call the florist and wedding planner and arrange it all for you.

A scenario like that is probably not what you had envisioned.  You have been carefully pinning away on Pinterest, have a book of ideas that you have been saving since Kindergarten and have watched every episode of Say Yes to the Dress.  Red Roses everywhere doesn't match any of that.

It's time to have some tough conversations.  Speak up in a polite way and thank your family for offering to pay for the wedding, but mention that there ideas don't necessarily match your own.

If that doesn't work for everyone, find a way to pay for things on your own...that may mean a smaller wedding, but you will have control.

We understand that family politics can cause stress during wedding planning and that's no fun for anyone.  This is supposed to be a time of celebration and joy.

Our wedding planning contract states very clearly that we "take direction from the bride only, no matter who is paying for items in the wedding."  So if your mom, or future mother-in-law call us and ask us to do something that we haven't discussed with you, our response will be "we need to talk to ____bride about this as she is our point of contact, have you discussed this with her yet?"  Then we will reach out to you and get approval or let you know that a difficult conversation is headed your way.

The key is remembering keeping the lines of communication open, remembering why this wedding is happening and finding the joy in the celebration.  And you can always call us to vent or ask how to handle a sticky situation.  We have seen it all!

When talking with your event and wedding pros have you heard the words commission, referral fee, kickback?  If so, we need to talk.

There is a perception out there that, Wedding Planners especially, make a lot of money from referral fees or kickbacks.  Whoa! Not cool!

Let's clarify, at Fabuluxe Events we do NOT accept referral fees or commissions of any sort.  However, if another event professional wants to give our clients a discount based on our relationship that is fantastic.  We just helped you find a superb vendor and you saved some money.  Works for everyone!

Some people feel that by offering a commission they can secure more business from Planners.  While that may work with some people, we only refer people that we trust 150%.

We want people to refer us to you because they trust us, they know we will go above and beyond to make your day spectacular, they know we are professional and have the highest standards and ethichs.  And it goes both ways, we only refer those who meet our rigid standards.

Our "Preferred Vendor List" has been carefully curated and updated over time.  And here is a sneaky little tidbit...that shiny brochure you may have received from your venue has lots of great wedding vendors...but did you know that those vendors paid to be in that shiny brochure?  Yep, that's right, in many cases vendors have to pay to be in those fancy, shmancy brochures.

As always, go with your instincts and first thoughts...they are usually right.  Ask your vendors if they give or receive commissions or referral fees.  And take the time to get to know your vendors before hiring them.

Cheers,

The Fabuluxe Team
